Stakeholders in Nasarawa State have expressed concern over the increasing cases of gender-based violence (GBV), urging stronger actions to protect women and girls. The concerns were raised during activities marking International Women’s Day (IWD) in the state.

Participants at the event noted that many victims of GBV remain silent due to stigma, fear of discrimination, and limited access to justice, which allows many perpetrators to escape punishment. They called for greater awareness, improved support systems for survivors, and stronger enforcement of existing laws to address the growing problem.

Advocates also emphasised the need for collaboration among government agencies, civil society organisations, traditional institutions, and communities to effectively combat gender-based violence and protect vulnerable groups.

The stakeholders stressed that addressing GBV is essential for achieving gender equality and ensuring the safety and dignity of women and girls across the state.
