A Lagos State Mobile Court has ordered the remand of six suspected miscreants following their arrest for a violent assault on officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) and other enforcement personnel during a late-night operation along Airport Road, Lagos. The suspects were arraigned on four-count charges, including assault, obstruction of lawful duty, and destruction of public property, after they allegedly attacked officers and destroyed property in defiance of traffic enforcement activities. One of the seven arrested individuals pleaded not guilty and was granted bail, while the other six were ordered to remain in custody pending further hearing on February 19, 2026.
The enforcement operation was coordinated by LASTMA’s General Manager, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, working alongside the Kick Against Indiscipline Corps, Lagos State Task Force, and other agencies following complaints from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria about persistent illegal activities and encroachments around airport facilities. During the exercise, the joint task force reportedly impounded 56 vehicles for various traffic and environmental offences, including commercial buses, private cars, and trucks, but five enforcement officers were attacked with dangerous weapons and one tow truck was set ablaze, prompting the arrests.
Authorities have reiterated their commitment to enforcing traffic laws and maintaining order on major road corridors, warning that violent resistance to lawful operations will attract serious legal consequences. What do you think should be done to prevent attacks on law enforcement officers and enhance the safety of traffic enforcement operations in Lagos? Comment below and share your thoughts.
