Shine Rosman

Nollywood actress Shine Rosman has opened up about the deep trauma and societal prejudices she faced during her teenage years following the tragic passing of her father. Speaking in a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, the actress revealed that she was just 16 years old when her father died—a devastating loss that left her deeply traumatized and battling intense grief.

Rather than receiving comfort, Rosman recalled that many people around her made incredibly harsh and damaging assumptions about her future. "After I lost my dad at 16, many people said to me that I would end up becoming a prostitute and get pregnant out of wedlock," she shared. The actress noted that dealing with such toxic expectations while simultaneously processing immense grief can easily push someone to the brink of despair and even suicide, describing grief as one of the hardest obstacles a person can ever overcome.

Despite the negativity and the predictions of failure, Rosman credits her difficult upbringing with fueling her drive to succeed. She explained that the adversity she faced forced her to grow a thick skin and gave her the determination to constantly push for a better life. "My tough upbringing definitely prepared me to want to do better every day," she stated, adding that growing up in a comfortable environment might not have sparked the same level of ambition in her. Today, she uses her experiences to stand strong in an industry where she continues to speak out on societal issues, including sexual harassment and the casting dynamics in Nollywood.
