Internal Crisis Hits Benue APC as Daniel Onjeh Rejects Ottah’s Consensus Endorsement

A fresh internal crisis has rocked the Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) following the controversial endorsement of Comrade Austin Ottah as a consensus candidate for the upcoming Benue South senatorial primary election. The arrangement was immediately rejected by fellow frontline aspirant, Comrade Daniel Onjeh, who labeled the consensus process as an undemocratic imposition by certain party leaders.
The friction reached a boiling point after a faction of members within the zone announced Ottah as the unified choice to fly the APC banner. Reacting to the development, Onjeh—a former student union leader and seasoned politician—vehemently distanced himself from the decision. He argued that there was no genuine consultation or agreement among all the competing aspirants, insisting that the move was a calculated plot to sideline popular candidates and disenfranchise party members in Benue South.
Onjeh maintained that he remains fully in the race alongside other contenders, including former federal lawmaker Nelson Alapa, and declared that only a transparent, direct, or indirect primary election can legitimately determine the party's candidate. He warned the Benue APC leadership against playing into the hands of the opposition by forcing unpopular consensus arrangements, which he believes could fracture the party's support base ahead of the general elections.
What are your thoughts on this latest crisis? Should the Benue APC go ahead with a full primary election, or stick to a consensus candidate? Please drop your comments below!
