Politicians Who Want to Win Must Align With APC – National Secretary, Basiru

National Secretary, Basiru

The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Ajibola Basiru, has described the ruling party as the only viable political vehicle capable of delivering electoral victory in Nigeria, dismissing opposition coalitions as politically ineffective ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise News, Basiru asserted that any serious politician aiming for victory would naturally gravitate toward the ruling party. "In any event, it makes sense for anybody who is a politician and wants to win an election to align with the APC," Basiru stated, confidently labeling the ruling party as the country's only genuine machinery for electoral success. He took a direct swipe at opposition parties attempting to merge or form alliances to challenge the ruling party, dismissing them as "comedians and jokers" rather than formidable election structures.

Assessing the party's performance during the House of Representatives and Senate primaries, the APC scribe gave the party high marks for its organization, inclusiveness, and democratic fairness, particularly praising the adoption of direct primaries in many constituencies as a strong sign of grassroots participation.

With the APC positioning itself as an unstoppable force ahead of the 2027 polls, Basiru’s bold declarations underscore the party’s aggressive drive to consolidate power and maintain its dominance over Nigeria's political landscape.

Do you agree with Senator Basiru that the APC is the only viable party for winning elections in Nigeria, or do you think an opposition coalition could pull off a surprise in 2027? Please drop your comments below!
