Only Five GAC Members Supported Hamzat, No Consensus Candidate in Lagos APC – Jim-Kamal

A frontline governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos State, Abdul-Ahmed Olorunfemi Jim-Kamal, has dismissed claims that the party has chosen a consensus candidate for the 2027 gubernatorial election. This comes after the Governance Advisory Council (GAC), the highest decision-making body of the APC in Lagos, purchased the ₦50 million expression of interest and nomination forms for the incumbent Deputy Governor, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat.
Jim-Kamal revealed that the purported endorsement of Hamzat did not reflect the unanimous decision of the influential advisory group. He claimed that out of the numerous members that make up the GAC, only five individuals were actually behind the purchase of the forms and the subsequent endorsement of the Deputy Governor.
Jim-Kamal insisted that the Lagos APC remains without a consensus candidate, stressing that the race for the party's gubernatorial ticket is still wide open. He argued that any attempt to impose a candidate through a flawed consensus arrangement by a few individuals would undermine internal democracy and the wishes of the party’s vast membership across the state.
Reaffirming his commitment to his own gubernatorial ambition, Jim-Kamal urged the party leadership to ensure a level playing field through a transparent and democratic primary election. He maintained that Lagosians and party faithful deserve the right to freely choose who flies the party’s flag in 2027, rather than having a candidate micro-managed by a small faction.
What do you think about Jim-Kamal’s claims regarding the GAC endorsement? Should the Lagos APC opt for a full primary election or stick behind Hamzat? Please drop your comments below!
