Police, Ebonyi Crackdown, Criminal Gangs

The Ebonyi State Police Command has confirmed the death of two suspected criminals and the arrest of three others during coordinated raids in the Iyonu and Isu communities.

According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Joshua Ukandu, the operation was conducted after credible intelligence revealed the hideouts of the gang members who had been terrorising residents. During a gun battle in the Iyonu/Idodo Forest, two suspects were killed, and officers recovered an AK-47 rifle, two locally made guns, 20 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and five live cartridges.

In a separate operation, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit foiled a kidnap attempt targeting a prominent individual’s mother in Isu, Onicha LGA. Three suspects — Monday Okorie, Ngwuta Friday, and Simon Joshua — were arrested, while one accomplice escaped.

Commissioner of Police, Adaku Uche-Anya, assured residents of the command’s commitment to maintaining safety and urged the public to share credible information to support proactive policing.
