Peter Obi Asks Institutions to Release Academic Records, Denies Having FBI File

The presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has declared that he has nothing to conceal regarding his background, explicitly asking institutions to make his academic credentials and official records available for public verification.
Speaking during an interview on 90 Minutes Africa, the former Anambra State governor addressed recent claims made by Nigeria's Ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, alleging that major Nigerian presidential candidates possess files with the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). Obi dismissed the assertion, clarifying that he has never had any interaction or dealings with the agency. He noted that his academic path—from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) to executive programs at institutions such as Harvard, Oxford, Cambridge, and the London School of Economics—remains open to legitimate public scrutiny.

In his remarks following a legal request by a group seeking Certified True Copies of his 1984 Bachelor of Arts degree in Philosophy, Obi urged UNN and all other institutions he attended within and outside Nigeria to release his certificates and admission records in accordance with applicable laws. He maintained that candidates aspiring to lead the country should proactively demonstrate transparency rather than view public verification as an attack, urging other political leaders to adopt the same standard to rebuild public trust ahead of future electoral cycles.
