AAC Petitions EFCC to Scrutinize Oyo State Government Spending Ahead of 2027 Elections

The Oyo State chapter of the African Action Congress (AAC) has formally petitioned the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), requesting increased oversight and monitoring of Oyo State Government expenditures as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The petition, dated September 9, 2026, was officially submitted through the party's legal counsel, Damilare Adenola and Co Law Practice, and received at the EFCC's Ibadan Zonal Office on September 14. Speaking through the Oyo State AAC Chairman, Kayode Babayomi, the opposition party clarified that the request is not an explicit accusation of criminal activity, but rather a proactive measure to ensure state resources are not diverted toward political campaigns or electioneering activities.

The AAC noted that its heightened concern stems from recent publicly observable political activities, including spending associated with political conventions and campaign logistics. Urging the anti-graft agency to safeguard public funds, the party stated that rigorous financial monitoring is essential to preserving public trust in governance as major political actors prepare for the 2027 electoral cycle.
