Olusegun Obasanjo

Former President of Nigeria, Olusegun Obasanjo, has held a private meeting with the Vice Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, in Kano State. The meeting took place on Thursday night, June 25, 2026, at the private residence of Kwankwaso located along Miller Road in the ancient city. Obasanjo, who was in the state for an official assignment, was warmly received by the former Kano State governor alongside the party’s governorship candidate in the state, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo.

While explaining the reason for the late night visit, Kwankwaso’s media aide, Saifullahi Hassan, described the closed door meeting as a great opportunity for warm exchanges between the two elder statesmen. Although the discussions were kept private, people believe that the visit is heavily connected to strategic consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 general elections. The sudden gathering has further confirmed long standing speculations that the former president is playing a major role in guiding Kwankwaso’s political journey.
