Obi Faults Leaders for Prioritising Elections Over Insecurity

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has criticised Nigeria’s political leaders for focusing on upcoming elections while insecurity continues to worsen across the country.
Obi made the remarks in a statement shared on his official social media account, expressing concern over recent attacks affecting civilians and security personnel in several parts of Nigeria. He said the country was “clearly under siege,” with insecurity spreading widely and becoming increasingly unbearable.
He cited a recent attack in Ngoshe community in Borno State, where terrorists reportedly overpowered soldiers, killing some of them and several residents while abducting more than 100 women and children.
The former Anambra State governor also mentioned insecurity in Nasarawa, Kogi and Benue states, noting that terrorists had taken over farms and forests in some areas, forcing residents to flee their communities.
Obi further raised concerns about kidnappings in the Kubwa area of Abuja, where about 19 residents were reportedly abducted, describing the incident as evidence that insecurity had now spread to the nation’s capital.
He accused the political class of paying insufficient attention to the crisis, saying many leaders were more focused on “how to snatch, grab, and run away with the next election.”
Obi stressed that Nigerians deserve leadership that prioritises their safety and welfare, calling for urgent action to restore security and stability across the country.
