The National Sports Commission has commended the family of Quadri Aruna following the impressive performance of his son, Junior Aruna, at the World Table Tennis Youth Contender in Luxembourg.

Director-General of the commission, Bukola Olopade, expressed pride in the young athlete’s achievements, noting that his success reflects both talent and strong parental support.

Junior Aruna won two medals at the tournament, securing silver in the U-11 category and bronze in the U-13 event. His performance in the U-13 category saw him recover from an opening defeat to progress through the group stage and advance to the semi-finals, where he eventually settled for bronze.

In the U-11 category, the 10-year-old delivered another strong showing, reaching the final after a hard-fought semi-final victory. He narrowly lost in the final to claim silver, capping an impressive outing at the competition.

Olopade praised not only the young player but also his parents, highlighting the role of his mother, Ganiat Aruna, as a coach and the influence of his father in building a solid foundation for his development. He stated that the achievement underscores the importance of family support in nurturing sporting talent.

The NSC boss reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to supporting emerging athletes, noting that Junior Aruna’s rise signals a bright future for Nigerian sports.
