Kano By-Elections

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has reacted to its exclusion from the recent by-elections in Kano State, with the party’s spokesperson, Ibrahim, asserting that the development did not hinder their political objectives. Despite the party's absence from the ballot in certain constituencies, Ibrahim maintained that the NNPP has already achieved its primary goal of demonstrating its grassroots strength and maintaining its dominance in Kano’s political space.

Addressing the media on Monday, February 9, 2026, the spokesperson downplayed the significance of the exclusion, suggesting it was a temporary hurdle rather than a systemic failure. He argued that the party’s influence remains unshaken and that their focus is now on consolidating power for future contests. According to Ibrahim, the enthusiasm shown by their supporters during the election period proved that the NNPP remains the party of choice for the majority of Kano residents.

Ibrahim dismissed concerns as distractions, emphasizing that the party is internally robust and strategically prepared for the 2027 general elections. He noted that the NNPP is currently conducting an internal review to ensure such logistical gaps are closed moving forward.

As the political atmosphere in Kano remains charged, the APC and other opposition parties are looking to capitalize on any perceived weaknesses within the ruling NNPP. Despite this, the NNPP leadership insists that their hold on the state is secure. The spokesperson concluded by urging party faithful to remain loyal, promising that the party’s "Kwankwasiyya" ideology will continue to drive development across the state.

Do you think the NNPP is truly unbothered by this exclusion, or is this just a brave face for the public? How do you think this will affect their momentum heading toward 2027? Share your comments below!
