2027: ‘APC Will Win if It’s Politicians’ Election’ – SDP’s Adewole Adebayo

SDP’s Adewole Adebayo

The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2023 elections, Prince Adewole Adebayo, has issued a stark assessment of the 2027 political outlook. Speaking on Sunday, February 8, 2026, Adebayo asserted that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) would only secure victory if the upcoming polls are treated as a "politicians' election," dominated by internal maneuvering and power play rather than the genuine will of the citizens.

Adebayo argued that if the 2027 exercise is truly a "people’s election," the APC would face an inevitable defeat due to the current economic hardships and the dissatisfaction of the masses. He criticized the current administration's policies, suggesting that they have failed to improve the standard of living for the average Nigerian. According to the SDP chieftain, a people-centric vote would prioritize competence and relief over political loyalty.

The SDP leader further cautioned that for the opposition to stand a chance, they must focus on addressing the needs of the electorate rather than simply trying to outmaneuver the ruling party in political games. He emphasized that the "politicians' election" often involves tactics such as voter suppression, intimidation, and the manipulation of the electoral process—factors he believes the APC excels at navigating.

He has urged Nigerians to reclaim their democratic power by ensuring that 2027 becomes a referendum on performance rather than a showcase of political engineering. For him, the only way to save Nigeria’s democracy is to shift the focus from the interests of the political elite to the survival of the common man.

Do you agree with Prince Adebayo that the APC's success depends on the exclusion of the people’s voice? How can Nigerians ensure that the 2027 polls are truly a "people's election"? Share your comments below!
