Nigerian Man in US

A 27‑year-old Nigerian man identified as Chukwuebuka Eweni has been arrested in New Orleans, United States, following an alleged domestic attack. According to the New Orleans Police Department (NOPD), officers responded to a call on Pebble Street around 9:59 p.m. on November 11 after reports of a “cutting” incident believed to be domestic.

At the scene, they found the man’s father, Samuel Eweni, unresponsive from a fatal stab wound. Samuel Eweni was a computer science professor at Southern University at New Orleans, according to family sources. Also discovered were two adult women, his daughters, who had sustained stab wounds. One sister has since been discharged from the hospital, while the other remains hospitalized but is expected to recover.

Family members told media that Chukwuebuka had a history of mental illness, but they said he had never previously been violent. After the incident, Chukwuebuka was located in a medical facility in Jefferson Parish, where he was in custody for medical evaluation. The police have obtained a warrant charging him with second‑degree murder for his father’s death and two counts of attempted second‑degree murder for injuring his sisters.

The New Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office is expected to release the official cause of death following an autopsy. What are your thoughts on how mental illness and family violence intersect in cases like this? Share your views in the comments.
