Nigeria Fails to Secure Win at 2026 Grammys as Tyla Triumphs

2026 Grammys

Nigeria’s high hopes for a celebrated night at the 68th Annual Grammy Awards were dashed as the country’s top artists went home without a single trophy. Despite several high-profile nominations for Afrobeats champions, the Nigerian music industry faced a total shutout. Fans who stayed up across the continent expressed shock as category after category passed without a Nigerian victory.

The night belonged once again to South African sensation Tyla, who solidified her status as the leading force in African music on the global stage. Tyla secured another major win in the Best African Music Performance category, successfully defending her title against stiff Nigerian competition.

Despite the lack of trophies, the presence of Nigerian artists on the red carpet and during the ceremony remained a testament to the country’s cultural influence. The "empty-handed" outcome is being viewed by many insiders as a wake-up call for the industry to diversify its creative output and strategic engagement with the Academy. For now, the celebration moves to Johannesburg.

Is the Grammy Academy becoming biased against Afrobeats, or has Nigerian music hit a plateau on the international awards circuit? How do you feel about Tyla’s consecutive wins over Nigerian artists? Share your comments below!
