Burna Boy has donated a large sum of money to the non-governmental organisation run by social media activist and critic VeryDarkMan, also known as Martins Vincent Otse. The donation, valued at one hundred and forty million naira, was confirmed when VeryDarkMan shared evidence of the transaction on his social media platforms. Bank receipts showed the funds credited to the NGO’s account, and the money was sent through Burna Boy’s brand, Spaceship Collective. This contribution positions Burna Boy as the highest single donor to the initiative so far.

VeryDarkMan’s NGO, the Martins Vincent Otse Initiative, focuses on humanitarian interventions and social support projects aimed at improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians. According to reports, the funds will be directed toward paying fines for inmates who have been unable to secure their release from correctional facilities due to unpaid fines, as well as assisting with medical bills for impoverished patients in public hospitals. VeryDarkMan emphasised that the money will be used strictly for these social interventions.

This is a new record for contributions to the NGO, surpassing a previous one hundred million naira donation made by music executive Don Jazzy.

Earlier reports indicated that VeryDarkMan had faced scrutiny over financial transparency related to donations to his NGO, with some critics calling for clearer accounting. Regardless, the N140 million gift from Burna Boy represents a significant financial boost for the NGO’s planned interventions.
