Nigeria’s leading state-owned carrier, Ibom Air, has announced the appointment of a new Director of Flight Operations as part of efforts to enhance operational efficiency and maintain high safety standards.
The airline confirmed that Captain Banjana Bailor has been named as the new Director of Flight Operations. The role is a critical leadership position responsible for overseeing all flight-related activities, including pilot performance, safety compliance and operational procedures.
The appointment reflects Ibom Air’s continued commitment to strengthening its internal systems as it expands its footprint within Nigeria and across the West African region. Since commencing operations in 2019, the airline has built a reputation for reliability, on-time performance and customer service, positioning itself as a key player in the country’s aviation industry.
Industry observers note that leadership changes in flight operations are often strategic, particularly for growing airlines aiming to scale routes and improve service delivery while maintaining strict adherence to aviation safety regulations.
As Director of Flight Operations, Captain Bailor is expected to ensure that all flights operate in line with both national and international aviation standards, while also contributing to the airline’s broader growth strategy.
The development comes at a time when Nigeria’s aviation sector is witnessing increased competition and expansion, with airlines investing in capacity, routes and personnel to meet rising passenger demand.
Ibom Air, owned by the Akwa Ibom State Government, continues to play a significant role in improving domestic connectivity and supporting regional air travel.
