Nigeria’s Chief of the Air Staff, Sunday Aneke, has been inducted into the International Honor Roll Class of 2026 by the United States Department of the Air Force at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, in recognition of his distinguished military career and leadership in air power.
The honour, conferred on April 10, 2026, is reserved for top global air force leaders who have demonstrated exceptional professional achievement. According to a statement by the Nigerian Air Force, Aneke was inducted alongside 15 other Air Chiefs and two Chief Master Sergeant of the Air Force equivalents from various countries.
Aneke, who attended the Air War College at Air University in 2016 as part of Seminar 7, was recognised for rising through the ranks to the highest level of his profession. The induction ceremony specifically honours alumni who have gone on to become service chiefs in their respective nations.
As part of the programme, participants were hosted by Kay Ivey at the Governor’s Mansion and embarked on a series of institutional visits. These included the Alabama Supreme Court, the Air University Library, the Enlisted Heritage Museum, Maxwell Club, the Air War College, and the SNCO Academy at Gunter Annex.
The Nigerian Air Force noted that the engagements highlighted the importance of professional military education, strategic leadership, and sustained global cooperation among air power institutions.
Aneke was accompanied by senior officials, including the President of the Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association, Ngozi Aneke, as well as Nigeria’s Defence Attaché.
The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of International Alumni certificates by Lieutenant General Trulley, symbolising formal recognition of Aneke’s career trajectory, leadership, and contributions to advancing Nigeria’s air capabilities on the global stage.
The recognition further reinforces Nigeria’s presence in international military circles and underscores the value of continued collaboration and knowledge exchange among world air forces.
