Veteran Nollywood actor and iconic Yoruba cinema star Taiwo Hassan, widely known as Ogogo, has passed away at the age of 66 following a prolonged battle with stage 4 cancer. His passing was confirmed on Sunday evening by his daughter, Kira Taiwo, during an emotional Instagram Live broadcast where she wept and broke the news to grieving fans.
The tragic news comes just days after his daughters, Kira and Haleemah (Lima) Taiwo, publicly disclosed his advanced diagnosis. They revealed that doctors had informed the family that chemotherapy could no longer be administered, prompting urgent appeals to medical professionals, hospitals, and well-wishers for alternative care options, palliative treatments, and specialized medical guidance.

His longtime friend and colleague Yinka Quadri revealed that hundreds of well-wishers and medical experts had reached out with offers of assistance, while public figures including Ogun West Senator Solomon Olamilekan (Yayi) intervened to help arrange specialized medical options.
According to reports by The Guardian Nigeria and Daily Post Nigeria, Ogogo was one of the most respected figures in modern Yoruba cinema. Spanning a career of over four decades, he starred in and produced scores of classic films, earning widespread acclaim for his screen presence, martial arts prowess, and portrayal of deep cultural values.
