Lorry Driver Jailed After Hiding £7.2m Cocaine Shipment Inside Kim Kardashian's Skims Cargo

A Polish lorry driver has been sentenced to 13 years and six months in prison after being caught smuggling a massive haul of Class A drugs into the UK. The illicit cargo—90 kilograms of cocaine with a street value of approximately £7.2 million ($9.4 million)—was hidden inside a heavy goods vehicle that was carrying an otherwise entirely legitimate shipment of shapewear and clothing from Kim Kardashian’s famous fashion brand, Skims.
The driver, 40-year-old Jakub Jan Konkel, was intercepted by UK Border Force officers at the Port of Harwich in Essex after arriving on a ferry from the Netherlands. While an X-ray scan of the vehicle confirmed it was loaded with 28 pallets of authentic Skims merchandise, officers noticed something unusual about the vehicle itself. A closer inspection revealed that the truck had been specially modified with a secret compartment built directly into the skin of the rear trailer doors.
Inside the hidden space, officials uncovered 90 neatly wrapped 1kg packages of cocaine. Investigators from the National Crime Agency (NCA) reviewed Konkel’s tachograph records, which exposed an undeclared 16-minute stop during his journey through Europe—the exact window when the drugs are believed to have been packed into the vehicle.
Authorities have stressed that neither the exporter nor the importer of the Skims clothing had any connection to the smuggling plot. Organised crime rings often exploit legitimate delivery routes to transport illicit goods across borders undetected. Konkel initially claimed he knew nothing about the hidden packages but eventually pleaded guilty to drug smuggling, confessing that he had agreed to act as a courier for a criminal syndicate in exchange for a payment of 4,500 Euros (around $5,243).
