Papalanto train accident

A moving train collided with a commercial bus at about 7 30 a.m. on Tuesday at the Papalanto rail crossing in Lagos, but the bus driver and passengers escaped without loss of life, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority officials have said. According to LASTMA’s Zonal Commander, Mr. Bashir Bolarinwa, the collision happened when the bus attempted to cross the rail track despite warning bells and flashing lights. Bolarinwa said officials were alerted immediately and responded to secure the scene, add first aid where necessary, and remove the damaged vehicle to restore traffic flow.

Mr. Bolarinwa told reporters that the bus “ignored the rail safety signals and got hit by the train,” adding that the train was travelling at normal speed when the impact occurred. He confirmed that all bus occupants were evacuated before emergency agencies arrived, and that they sustained minor bruises and shock, but no serious injuries or deaths were reported. The Nigerian Railway Corporation also appealed to motorists to obey rail crossing warnings to prevent similar accidents.
