Lagos State Government Cautions Sarah Martins Over Roadside Cooking Stunt

The Lagos State Government has issued an official caution to Nollywood actress and content creator Sarah Martins following a viral video showing her cooking on a public road. In a statement released on Saturday, March 7, 2026, state authorities warned that using public infrastructure for such demonstrations poses significant safety risks to both the individuals involved and road users.
The actress had reportedly set up a cooking spot on a busy Lagos road as part of a promotional stunt or content creation exercise, which quickly drew a crowd and disrupted the flow of traffic. While the video gained traction online, it also caught the attention of the Ministry of Transportation and environmental safety officers. Officials emphasized that while the state supports the creative industry, "the road is for transit, not a kitchen," and such actions violate public order and safety regulations.
Authorities noted that setting up gas cylinders or open fires on public asphalt not only risks fire outbreaks but also creates unnecessary bottlenecks in a city already struggling with congestion. Sarah Martins was urged to utilize private studios or designated event spaces for future productions to avoid facing legal penalties or the impounding of equipment.
The state has reiterated that it will not hesitate to enforce environmental and traffic laws against anyone, regardless of their social standing.
Do you think the Lagos State Government is right to crack down on "creative" use of public roads, or should influencers be given more freedom to create content? Share your comments below!
