Lagos Ride-Hailing Drivers Push for Better Pay, Industry Reforms
Omoyeni Olabode

E-hailing drivers in Lagos State have called for fair pay and reforms in the ride-hailing sector, citing poor earnings, unfair treatment and lack of transparency by platform operators.
The drivers, operating under the Amalgamated Union of App-Based Transporters of Nigeria (AUATON), said many of their members are facing serious financial difficulties due to low fares and operational challenges within the industry.
In a statement, the union urged ride-hailing companies to address several concerns affecting drivers, including the need for fair and consistent earnings, improved working conditions and transparent operational processes.
The group also demanded that companies fix technical glitches on ride-hailing applications and ensure prompt disbursement of drivers’ earnings so that operators can meet their financial obligations.
According to the union, drivers are also pushing for a clear and transparent grievance resolution mechanism to prevent arbitrary disciplinary actions that could threaten their livelihoods.
The association stressed that e-hailing drivers play a crucial role in sustaining the digital transport ecosystem and therefore deserve respect, fair treatment and better protection within the industry.
AUATON warned that if the concerns raised are not addressed, drivers may consider collective actions, including protests or suspension of services, to press home their demands.
