A former local government chairman in Ogun State has thrown his weight behind the governorship ambition of Iyabo Obasanjo ahead of the 2027 elections, adding fresh momentum to her campaign.

The ex-council boss declared support for the former senator, describing her as a capable and experienced candidate with the credentials to lead the state. He noted that her political background and administrative experience position her favourably in the race.

Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has been actively seeking support across Ogun State as she intensifies consultations ahead of the polls.

The endorsement is seen as part of growing political backing for her aspiration, as stakeholders within the state continue to weigh in on the 2027 governorship contest.

Obasanjo previously served as Commissioner for Health in Ogun State and later represented Ogun Central in the Senate, experiences her supporters say have prepared her for higher office.

Her ambition has continued to generate discussions around leadership, inclusiveness and political experience, with supporters urging broader backing for her candidacy.

The 2027 governorship race in Ogun State is expected to attract significant attention as political alignments and endorsements begin to shape the contest.
