‘It Won’t Happen Again in 2027’ – Governor Oborevwori Rules Out Peter Obi Winning Delta

The Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has declared that the opposition surge witnessed during the last presidential election cycle will not repeat itself, confidently ruling out the possibility of Peter Obi winning the state in the 2027 general elections.

Oborevwori made the assertions while reflecting on the shifting political dynamics in Delta State and the strategic realignment of its leadership. In the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi—then running under the Labour Party—secured a major upset in Delta State, defeating the ticket that featured the state's former governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, as a vice-presidential running mate.

However, Governor Oborevwori insisted that the conditions which enabled that unexpected opposition victory have completely changed, emphasizing that the state's political machinery has since been consolidated to prevent any future upsets.

“What happened in the last election was a product of specific circumstances and wave-riding that caught many off guard. It won’t happen again in 2027. Delta State has structurally repositioned itself, and we are fully prepared to deliver a decisive mandate that reflects our aligned political strength,” Oborevwori stated.

The governor's confidence is strongly tied to a monumental wave of defections that shook the state. Both Governor Oborevwori and his predecessor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

With Peter Obi expected to spearhead the opposition's challenge under a newly aligned platform, the battle for control of the oil-rich Niger Delta state is shaping up to be fiercely contested. Nevertheless, Governor Oborevwori maintains that with the grassroots structure firmly in his grip and major developmental projects active across Delta Central, Delta North, and Delta South, there will be no room for another political surprise.

What are your thoughts on Governor Oborevwori's claim? Do you think the political machinery in Delta State can completely stop Peter Obi's momentum in 2027? Please share your comments below!
