Israel Strikes Lebanon After Hezbollah Rocket Fire, Tensions Escalate

Israeli forces launched air and artillery strikes on Lebanon in response to rocket attacks fired by Hezbollah, according to statements from the Israel Defence Forces (IDF). The exchange marks a fresh surge in hostilities along the Israel-Lebanon border amid ongoing regional tensions.
The IDF said its strikes targeted Hezbollah infrastructure and weapon sites after the group reportedly fired rockets from southern Lebanon into Israeli territory. Israel’s military described its response as aimed at weakening Hezbollah’s ability to strike border communities.
Lebanese authorities and local sources reported explosions in southern Lebanon following the Israeli bombardment. The area has been a flashpoint for periodic clashes between the Israeli military and Hezbollah, a powerful armed group and political movement based in Lebanon.
The violence comes amid broader regional instability, with concerns that cross-border exchanges could escalate into wider confrontation. Both sides regularly trade fire at intervals, particularly when tensions rise in neighbouring theatres.
Officials on both sides have made few immediate comments beyond confirming the attacks and counter-strikes, and there has been no official report of major casualties in the initial exchanges. The situation remains fluid as international attention focuses on efforts to prevent further escalation.
