ICPC Pushes Stronger Forensic Capacity for Corruption Investigations

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called for stronger forensic investigation capabilities to effectively combat increasingly sophisticated corruption and financial fraud cases in Nigeria.
The Secretary of the commission, Okwudiri Oparaodu, made the call during the opening of a two-day capacity-building workshop for ICPC operational personnel, themed “Harnessing Forensic Capabilities in the Investigation of Corrupt Practices and Financial Frauds.”
According to a statement issued by the ICPC spokesperson, Okor Odey, the workshop was organised with support from the Centre for Democracy and Development to strengthen investigators’ capacity in handling complex corruption cases.
Oparaodu noted that the growing sophistication of financial crimes requires investigators to rely more on advanced forensic techniques and modern technology to properly analyse evidence and build stronger cases.
He emphasised that the effectiveness of investigations largely depends on the robust application of forensic tools, warning that weaknesses in the forensic process could undermine months of investigative work during court proceedings.
