ICC: "Muslims Should Produce the Next Governor of Oyo State in 2027"

The Islamic Cooperation Council (ICC) has formally called for a power shift in Oyo State, asserting that the next governor of the state should be of the Islamic faith.
In a statement released to the press, the ICC argued that the principle of fairness and religious inclusion necessitates a Muslim successor to the current administration. The group pointed out that while Oyo State is known for its religious harmony, there is a growing sentiment among the Muslim community that it is "their turn" to lead the state's executive branch. They emphasized that this call is not intended to create division but to ensure that all major demographics in the state feel represented at the highest level of government.
The council further noted that there are numerous qualified and competent Muslim individuals across various political parties who possess the leadership qualities required to build on the progress made in the state. The ICC urged political parties to consider this factor while selecting their flagbearers for the 2027 gubernatorial race, suggesting that such a move would strengthen the bond of unity and equity within the Pacesetter State.
As the 2027 race heats up, this declaration by the ICC is expected to influence the zoning and selection debates within major parties like the PDP and APC. While the state has historically balanced its political leadership across various divides, the religious dimension often plays a subtle but significant role in voter mobilization and party consensus.
Do you believe that religious rotation should be a major factor in choosing the next governor of Oyo State, or should competence remain the only criteria? Share your comments below!
