Hayatu-Deen Picks ADC Presidential Form, Pledges Action on Insecurity

Economist and former investment banker Mohammed Hayatu-Deen has officially entered the 2027 presidential race, picking up his expression of interest and nomination forms under the African Democratic Congress (ADC) on Friday, May 8, 2026. He previously sought the presidency in 2023 under a different platform before withdrawing during the primaries.
During the event at the ADC National Secretariat in Abuja, Hayatu-Deen emphasized that his candidacy is driven by an urgent need to address the "existential threats" facing Nigeria, with a primary focus on the country's deteriorating security situation. He noted that without a secure environment, economic prosperity and social stability remain unattainable dreams for the average citizen.
The ADC has increasingly become a focal point for high-profile figures seeking an alternative to the major ruling parties.
Hayatu-Deen’s entrance into the race follows a week of heavy political realignment in Nigeria, including the massive surge in membership for the NDC following Peter Obi’s defection. The ADC, however, remains confident that its focus on "integrity-based leadership" will resonate with voters who are disillusioned with the current political establishment.
Do you think a technocrat like Mohammed Hayatu-Deen can successfully navigate the grassroots politics of Nigeria to secure the presidency, or does the race still favor traditional career politicians? Share your comments below
