I Regret Using My BBNaija Prize Money to Support Family Members – Phyna

The winner of Big Brother Naija Season 7, Josephina Otabor, popularly known as Phyna, has opened up about her biggest financial regret, revealing that she spent the majority of her N100 million grand prize on family responsibilities rather than investing it for her future.

Speaking during a recent emotional livestream, the reality TV star admitted that she was young, naive, and entirely unprepared for the massive financial influx when she emerged from the Big Brother house in 2022. Instead of receiving constructive guidance from older relatives on how to manage or grow her wealth, Phyna explained that she was constantly bombarded with endless financial demands.

She disclosed that she spent generously on her family, clearing various debts, handing out cash, and even funding structural projects like digging multiple boreholes for relatives. However, she lamented that her generosity eventually became her undoing when she started drawing boundaries.

“The mistake I made was using my Big Brother Naija prize money to support family members instead of investing it. I thought I was helping my family members and sorting out their debts... But the moment I started saying 'No', that was the beginning of my problem with family members. They complain and even call me out in the media whenever I can't meet their demands. But now that the money has finished, I'm the only one facing the reality alone,” she shared.

Phyna won the "Level Up" edition of BBNaija in 2022, securing a grand prize valued at N100 million, which included N50 million in cash and N50 million worth of sponsored luxury prizes. Reflecting on her current situation, the reality star expressed deep heartbreak that the very people she exhausted her funds to lift up have turned against her now that the money is spent.
