Lai Mohammed

Alhaji Lai Mohammed, former minister of information and culture, has publicly restated his strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. Speaking at the 15th convocation lecture of Achievers University in Ondo State, Mohammed emphasised that his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains solid and that he remains fully supportive of the current government in Abuja. He said that although he is no longer on the front line of active politics, his commitment to the administration is unwavering.

Mohammed described himself as a “very loyal member” of the APC and said, “I am 100 per cent behind this administration.” He explained that after years in frontline politics, he now chooses to operate more discreetly and support the government through what he called “back channels.” The former minister said his current focus has shifted to mentorship and knowledge transfer, particularly to young people in tertiary institutions, where he delivers lectures promoting innovation and resilience.

In his address to the graduating class, Mohammed defended the Tinubu government’s efforts, especially in tackling insecurity, urging Nigerians to avoid harsh criticism and to understand the complexity of governing a diverse and large nation. He reiterated that security remains a major challenge and that collaboration with communities is crucial for progress. Mohammed’s remarks also touched on the need for Nigerians to be active participants in national development rather than critics from the sidelines.

Mohammed used the occasion to counsel students that success often requires innovation, courage, and adaptability in a world that is unpredictable and rapidly changing. His intervention highlighted his dual role as both a political supporter and a mentor to the next generation.
