“He Was In School When I Was Governor” — Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola Disowns Nyesom Wike

Former Osun State Governor Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola has firmly distanced himself from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, declaring that despite their shared membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Wike is in no position to be his political leader.
Speaking during a televised interview on Channels Television's Politics Today, he addressed the leadership tussles and intense political realignments rocking the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections. Pointing to their respective trajectories in public service, Oyinlola argued that Wike's age and political history do not place him above him, noting pointedly that Wike was still a student when Oyinlola served as military governor of Lagos State between 1993 and 1996.

While confirming his continued membership in the PDP, Oyinlola explicitly stated, "Yes, I am a member of the PDP, but he is not my leader. When I was governor, where was he? He was in school. So, he doesn’t qualify to be my leader."

“Obasanjo has tried his best, let me say. But there are too many forces working against the unity of the party... The PDP is not dead. The bone will rise again. If we get our acts together, it's a thing we can achieve, but the forces making sure we don't get there are there. They are not sleeping.”
