Dr. Yusuf Bello Danbatta has officially dumped the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Danbatta, who stood as the PDP’s deputy governorship candidate during the 2023 elections, announced his decision in a signed statement issued to journalists on Monday, June 8, 2026. He noted that the move followed extensive, wide-ranging consultations with key political leaders, associates, grassroot supporters, and other critical stakeholders across the state.
According to the former opposition flagbearer, the APC currently offers a more aligned and effective platform through which he can advance the socio-economic interests of his people and champion meaningful developmental initiatives.
“This decision follows careful consideration and wide-ranging consultations. The APC offers a more suitable platform through which I can advance the interests of our people and support initiatives aimed at improving governance and development,” Danbatta stated.
Interestingly, Danbatta revealed that his defection was heavily influenced by the leadership style and developmental blueprint of the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. He praised the administration’s “Kano First Agenda,” describing it as a transformative program that has shown a clear commitment to human capital development, infrastructural renewal, and transparent governance.
Reaffirming his commitment to public service, the former deputy governorship candidate pledged to work tirelessly for the unity, growth, and stability of the state alongside his new party members. He concluded by calling on his vast network of political associates and supporters to join him in backing the ongoing efforts to drive sustained progress in Kano State.
