Federal Poly Ede Denies Campus Shooting, Warns Against Election Violence

The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Ede, Osun State, has dismissed reports claiming that gunmen attacked the campus during the ongoing Students’ Union Government election.
A Facebook post circulating on Monday alleged that shootings occurred within the polytechnic, warning the public to avoid the area. However, in a statement on Tuesday, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Sola Lawal, said the rumour was false.
According to him, there were isolated cases of violence in the Odo-Eja area of Ede on November 3, but the incident was unrelated to the institution. He described the reports as “baseless and unfounded,” urging the public to ignore them.
The school also cautioned members of staff and non-students to stay away from the election venue if they have no business there. Lawal assured that security measures were in place before, during and after the poll, warning students to remain law-abiding or face disciplinary action.
The polytechnic noted that it has a record of responding firmly to security breaches, recalling that 27 students involved in a violent protest in 2024 were expelled, with others suspended or banned from campus.
