Farmers, Land Grabbing, Destruction of Cocoa Farms, Ondo State

Farmers and residents of Aponmu community in Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State on Monday staged a peaceful protest at the Governor’s Office in Akure over alleged land grabbing and destruction of their farmlands.

The protesters, holding placards with messages such as “Powerful people have taken over our cocoa farms” and “Mr Governor, please save our souls,” accused land grabbers of invading their farms with armed men and bulldozers.

Protest leader Pastor Tope Akinkuade said the community had faced years of intimidation, warning that the situation could lead to conflict if not addressed. He noted that letters sent to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa in October about the issue had yet to yield action.

Responding, the governor’s aide, Bola Taiwo, urged the protesters to remain calm, assuring them that the state government would investigate and resolve the matter peacefully.
