Enzo Fernández to Miss Man City Clash Despite Apology

Enzo Fernandez

Chelsea manager Liam Rosenior has confirmed that Argentine midfielder Enzo Fernández will serve the second and final game of his club-imposed suspension this Sunday, April 12, 2026. Despite "clear-the-air" talks and a formal apology from the World Cup winner, Fernández will not be in the squad for the high-stakes Premier League encounter against Manchester City at Stamford Bridge.

The 25-year-old was disciplined following a controversial interview where he expressed a desire to move to Madrid, comments interpreted by the club as a lack of commitment to the Blues' long-term project.

In his Friday press conference, the manager noted that while he believes people make mistakes and has had several "really good" conversations with Enzo, certain values and standards must remain non-negotiable.
The timing of the suspension is particularly challenging for Chelsea, who currently sit sixth in the Premier League and are fighting for a Champions League spot. Without Fernández, the responsibility in midfield is expected to fall on Moisés Caicedo and Romeo Lavia as they face a surging Manchester City side fresh from a dominant 4-0 FA Cup win over Liverpool. Rosenior has urged the rest of the squad to remain focused on the "huge run-in" ahead, hoping the matter can be fully resolved once this weekend’s fixture is concluded.
