"Don’t Take Us for Granted": ADC Members Warn Tinubu Over Akpabio’s Leadership of National Assembly

Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu, cautioning him against underestimating the growing dissatisfaction with the current leadership of the National Assembly.
The ADC members expressed concern that the lack of robust oversight and the perceived subservience of the National Assembly under Akpabio’s watch are detrimental to Nigeria’s democracy. They argued that the legislature should serve as a check on executive power rather than an extension of it, warning that the current trajectory could lead to systemic failure. The group urged President Tinubu to reassess his political alliances and ensure that the legislative arm is allowed to function with the autonomy required by the constitution.
The ADC, which has been increasingly vocal about governance issues, suggested that the perceived mismanagement of the National Assembly would be a major talking point for the opposition in the coming years. By calling out the relationship between the Presidency and the Senate leadership, the ADC members aim to galvanize public opinion in favor of a more balanced and transparent government structure.
Do you think the National Assembly under Akpabio has become too close to the Presidency, or is a harmonious relationship between the two arms necessary for effective governance? Share your comments below!
