A Nigerian businessman, Henry Nzube Ikeji, has denied allegations linking him to a $2.5 million fraud involving the impersonation of a Dubai Crown Prince.

Ikeji, who was arrested and detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, was earlier named in an investigative report by the National Cybercrime Centre as a suspect in the alleged scam targeting a Romanian woman.

However, in a statement issued by his media adviser, Karen James, the businessman insisted that his arrest was a case of mistaken identity. According to the statement, findings from the anti-graft agency’s own investigation do not support claims that Ikeji was involved in impersonating a Dubai royal.

The statement further disclosed that while the EFCC traced a total of ₦155,186,500 to Ikeji, he maintained that the funds were legitimate proceeds from his business activities.

To support his defence, Ikeji reportedly presented a Memorandum of Understanding registered with a Notary Public in Nigeria as evidence of lawful transactions.

His media aide added that ongoing investigations appear to favour his position, expressing confidence that he would be cleared of all allegations once the review process is concluded.

The case continues to draw attention as authorities review the circumstances surrounding the alleged fraud and the businessman’s claims of innocence.
