The entertainment world is in mourning following the passing of legendary Canadian voice actor Peter Cullen, best known across the globe as the iconic voice of Optimus Prime in the Transformers franchise. Cullen passed away peacefully at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by his family at the age of 85.
Born in Montreal in 1941, Cullen became an international household name in 1984 when he originated the voice of the noble Autobot leader in the classic 1980s Transformers animated series. Over four decades, he defined the character for generations of fans, drawing inspiration for Optimus Prime's calm, authoritative delivery from his late brother, a U.S. Marine veteran. Beyond Transformers, his legendary voice work spanned iconic characters including Eeyore in Disney's Winnie the Pooh, the vocal effects for the alien hunter in Predator (1987), and KARR in Knight Rider.
