Abia State Governor Alex Otti has officially debunked widespread reports suggesting he is planning to defect from the Labour Party (LP). Speaking during a media chat, the Governor described the rumors as "mischievous" and the handiwork of political opponents who are more interested in 2027 election cycles than the current progress of the state. He maintained that he remains a steadfast member of the party and is not in talks with any other political organization.
The Governor clarified that his focus remains entirely on the "Rebuilding Abia" agenda, emphasizing that infrastructure development and the welfare of citizens take precedence over partisan maneuvering. He noted that the mandate given to him by the people of Abia was under the umbrella of the Labour Party, and he intends to honor that trust by delivering on his campaign promises. Otti pointed out that the success of his administration is a testament to the party's ideology of people-centered governance.
Correcting the misinterpretation of his recent comments, Otti explained that while he acknowledges the dynamic nature of Nigerian politics, it should not be mistaken for a lack of loyalty. He stressed that the internal challenges currently facing the Labour Party at the national level are not enough to make him abandon the platform. Instead, he expressed hope that the party would resolve its issues and emerge stronger as a formidable alternative in the national political space.
As the only Governor elected on the Labour Party platform, Otti’s political future is a subject of intense scrutiny across the country. By reinforcing his commitment, he has provided a sense of stability to his supporters and party members who feared a shift in the state's political landscape. For now, the "Abia Renaissance" continues under the LP banner, with the Governor insisting that his performance will always speak louder than any political affiliation.
