Nigeria’s sprint scene delivered a gripping spectacle at the MTN Champs Grand Final in Ibadan, where Enoch Adegoke and Chidera Ezeakor produced a dramatic dead heat in the men’s 100 metres final.
Both athletes clocked an identical time of 10.15 seconds, sharing top honours in one of the most memorable races of the competition.
The race had been highly anticipated following strong performances in the heats, where Adegoke set the pace with a season’s best, while Ezeakor and Tejiri Godwin closely matched his speed.
In the final, however, expectations were exceeded as Adegoke, an Olympic finalist and Ezeakor, the reigning National Sports Festival champion, surged neck-and-neck across the finish line. The result not only emphasised their rivalry but also showed the growing depth of Nigerian sprinting.
Ezeakor’s time marked a new personal best, adding further significance to the shared victory. Behind them, Osama Chibueze secured third place with a lifetime best of 10.35 seconds, rounding off a race defined by tight margins and peak performances.
The men’s 100m final stood out as a highlight of the event, reflecting the high level of competition at the MTN Champs, where several athletes recorded personal and season’s bests across categories.
