Accord Party Disowns Christopher Imumolen Over National Chairmanship Claims

 Christopher Imumolen

The Accord Party (AP) has issued a stinging rebuke to Professor Christopher Imumolen, the party's 2023 presidential candidate, over his claims to the position of National Chairman. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) does not recognize Imumolen in any administrative capacity, let alone as the head of the party. The dispute marks a significant fracture within the party’s hierarchy as it prepares for future electoral cycles.

The party's official leadership accused Imumolen of engaging in "anti-party activities" and attempting to create a parallel leadership structure that has no legal or constitutional backing. According to the Accord Party, the only recognized National Chairman remains Barrister Maxwell Mgbudem, who was duly elected and remains on the official records of INEC. They emphasized that any attempt by Imumolen to preside over party meetings or issue directives is an exercise in futility and a violation of the party's internal constitution.

The party leadership pointed out that a presidential candidate does not automatically transition into a party administrator. They warned that Imumolen’s "unauthorized" actions could lead to disciplinary measures, including suspension or expulsion, if he continues to "mislead the public."

The Accord Party has urged its members nationwide to remain loyal to the recognized executive led by Mgbudem and to ignore any "factions" attempting to destabilize the party's unity. As of today, INEC’s official portal continues to list the Mgbudem-led executive as the legitimate authority for the Accord Party.
