Abayomi Alvin Reveals Why Nollywood Stars Are Moving To YouTube

Popular Nollywood actor and movie producer, Towase Abayomi Alvin, has opened up on why many Nigerian actors are now bypassing traditional cinemas to upload their films directly on YouTube. The movie star discussed this trending topic in a recent interview where he addressed the major changes happening inside the Nigerian film industry. According to him, this shift to the digital streaming platform is heavily driven by the need for financial survival and the search for faster business returns.
Alvin explained that despite the huge fame that many Nollywood actors build over the years, a lot of them still remain financially unstable due to low payments and weak welfare structures. He revealed that many actors have had their eyes opened after working tirelessly on projects for low fees, only for the producers to license those films to major streaming platforms for massive profits without paying the cast any extra money. YouTube has now changed the game because it allows visible actors to easily monetize their personal brand and connect directly with their own audience.
The producer further noted that making cinema-standard movies in Nigeria today requires huge budgets that can comfortably exceed one hundred million naira, whereas YouTube projects cost much less to produce. He stated that the online platform creates regular employment opportunities because an actor can shoot multiple YouTube movies in a single month and get steady income compared to infrequent cinema gigs. Alvin however advised upcoming filmmakers not to rush their productions because of quick returns, urging them to still maintain good standards in sound, scripting, and editing.
