2027: Peter Obi Remains Member of ADC Coalition – Nwosu
Omoyeni Olabode

The African Democratic Congress has reaffirmed that Peter Obi, former Governor of Anambra State and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, remains part of the ADC coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. This clarification was made by the National Chairman of ADC, Ralphs Okey Nwosu, amid growing speculation about Obi’s status within the opposition alliance. Nwosu stated clearly that Obi has not withdrawn from the coalition and continues to be engaged in discussions aimed at building a strong opposition front.
Nwosu explained that the ADC coalition was formed to unite opposition parties, political leaders, and stakeholders who share common goals of good governance, electoral reforms, and democratic consolidation. He said the coalition is still in its consultation and alignment phase, which involves resolving issues such as structure, leadership roles, and terms of engagement. According to him, ongoing consultations should not be mistaken for division or withdrawal by any member, including Obi.
The ADC chairman also addressed reports suggesting internal disagreements between Obi and other coalition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar. He noted that differences of opinion are normal in coalition building and insisted that such discussions are part of the process of achieving consensus. Nwosu added that Obi’s continued participation reflects his commitment to a united opposition capable of offering Nigerians a credible alternative in 2027.
Nwosu urged Nigerians to disregard unverified claims and rely on official statements from the coalition leadership. He stressed that the ADC remains focused on strengthening its structures nationwide and finalising coalition frameworks before discussions on candidates begin.
