Ex‑Police Affairs Minister Claims Deji Adeleke Is Real Governor of Osun, Not Ademola

A former Minister of Police Affairs has made a bold claim that Deji Adeleke, a prominent businessman and elder brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke, is the “real governor” of Osun State and not the sitting governor. The statement was made during a political event where the ex‑minister accused political actors in the state of manipulating power and asserted that the true mandate belongs to Deji Adeleke. The remarks quickly drew attention as political tensions continue in Osun ahead of the 2026 governorship election. (dailypost.ng)
In defending his position, the ex‑minister argued that internal party dynamics and alleged manipulations of electoral mechanisms undermined the legitimacy of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s tenure. He claimed that Deji Adeleke was the preferred and rightful leader based on supposed internal consensus that he said was ignored by political gatekeepers. However, the ex‑minister did not provide evidence to back up his assertions, and there has been no judicial ruling overturning the confirmation of Ademola Adeleke as governor.
Supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke dismissed the comments as baseless and politically motivated, stressing that the governor was duly elected in accordance with the constitution and has been recognised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the courts.
What do you think about this assertion regarding who truly governs Osun State, and how should allegations about political legitimacy be addressed? Comment below and share your thoughts.
