APGA Clears Aspirants: Stage Set for 2026 Anambra Local Government Primaries

The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has officially cleared a wave of aspirants to participate in the upcoming chairmanship primaries for the 2026 Local Government elections in Anambra State. This move, announced on Monday, February 16, 2026, marks a critical step in the party’s strategy to maintain its long-standing dominance at the grassroots level across the state's 21 local government areas.

The clearance uses a rigorous screening process conducted by the party’s electoral committee, which evaluated candidates based on their party loyalty, community standing, and adherence to the APGA manifesto. Party leadership emphasized that the screening was necessary to ensure that only individuals with the capacity to drive Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s development agenda at the local level are allowed to run.

“The screening was fair, transparent, and thorough. We are committed to presenting the best candidates to the people of Anambra,” a party spokesperson stated.

The primaries are scheduled to hold across various designated centers in the state, with security agencies reportedly on high alert to ensure a peaceful exercise. As the aspirants begin their final rounds of consultations and campaigns, all eyes are on how this internal process will shape the future of local administration in the "Light of the Nation."

Do you believe APGA's continued dominance in Anambra is a result of good performance, or is it due to a lack of a strong opposition? Share your comments below!
