2027: I Never Declared Guber Ambition – Deputy Speaker Kalu
Omoyeni Olabode

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has dismissed reports claiming he has declared interest in contesting the Abia State governorship election in 2027. Kalu described the claims as false and misleading, stressing that he has not made any public or private declaration regarding a governorship ambition. He said the reports misrepresented his position and risked creating unnecessary political tension in the state.
Kalu explained that his current focus remains on his constitutional responsibilities as Deputy Speaker and on delivering effective representation for the people of Bende Federal Constituency. He stated that any narrative suggesting he has begun political mobilisation for the 2027 governorship race is inaccurate. According to him, discussions about future elections are premature and distract from governance and legislative duties at the national level.
The Deputy Speaker also clarified that his engagements across Abia State should not be interpreted as political campaigning. He said such visits are part of his routine consultations, development advocacy, and efforts to support federal projects in his constituency and the wider state. Kalu urged political actors and commentators to avoid attributing personal ambitions to him without factual basis or direct confirmation.
Kalu called on the public to rely on verified statements and official communication rather than speculation, adding that he would clearly communicate his intentions if and when he decides to pursue any elective office. He maintained that responsible political discourse is essential as the country gradually approaches another election cycle. What do you think about early political speculation ahead of 2027, and should public officials address such claims immediately? Share your thoughts in the comments section.
