A tragic incident marred Nigerian singer Asake’s concert in Nairobi, Kenya, on December 20, 2025, when a stampede broke out at the Nyayo National Stadium entrance, resulting in the death of a young woman identified as Karen Lojore, a university student. The crowd crush happened as fans attempted to enter the venue, with witnesses saying long queues, heavy rain and delays at entry points contributed to chaos and panic among concertgoers before the fatal incident.

Karen, who was in her early twenties and studying Applied Computer Science at Daystar University, was rushed to the Nairobi West Hospital after collapsing in the surge, but she was pronounced dead on arrival, and her body was later taken to the city mortuary. Family and friends have since called for answers and accountability, with her mother publicly demanding justice and questioning how the tragedy unfolded despite her daughter having a valid ticket.

Music fans and online commentators described chaotic scenes as thousands attempted to enter the stadium, some even forcing their way through overwhelmed entry points, which eyewitnesses say led to panic and crushing.

Asake responded to the tragedy with a heartfelt message on social media, expressing devastation over the loss and offering condolences to Karen’s family and loved ones. He said he hoped those responsible would be held accountable and pledged support to help understand what happened, acknowledging that music is meant to bring joy and that the loss of life was deeply painful.
