World number one Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the 2025 Davis Cup Finals in Bologna due to a hamstring injury. He revealed he has “an oedema in my right hamstring” and that medical advice has ruled out his participation.

Alcaraz stated:

“I’m so sorry to announce that I will not be able to play with Spain in the Davis Cup in Bologna … I have an oedema in my right hamstring and the medical recommendation is not to compete. I’ve always said that playing for Spain is the greatest thing there is, and I was really looking forward to helping us fight for the Davis Cup.”

The injury reportedly developed during the final of the ATP Finals in Turin, where he was defeated by Jannik Sinner. The withdrawal is a significant blow for Spain’s team ahead of the quarter-final match.

Spain will now proceed in the tournament without their leading player, adjusting their squad and strategy for the upcoming ties. Alcaraz is expected to focus on recovery ahead of the next major events in the 2026 tennis season.
